SIEMENS $225,000 Contribution Supports Mechatronics at SPSU

Siemens
Energy & Automation, Inc. is one
of Siemens’ operating companies in the U. S., headquartered in
the Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta, Ga. The company manufactures
and markets one of the world’s broadest ranges of electrical and
electronic products, systems and services to industrial and
construction market customers.
Citing industry
demand for trained professionals in mechatronics – a discipline
that marries mechanical and electrical engineering and is a
major key in manufacturing today -- Siemens Energy and
Automation is providing a $225,000 grant to support
undergraduate education in this field at Southern Polytechnic
State University.
According to
MET Professor
Glenn Allen,
mechatronics does not replace the disciplines of mechanical or
electrical engineering but combines them into an integrated
partnership that is a major key in sophisticated manufacturing
today.
According to Tom
Kopanski (Siemens Energy and Automation, Inc. Vice President) ,
“Investing in technical and education-based programs like the
development of a mechatronics degree program at SPSU enables our
organization to support the development of the next generation
of engineers and scientists who will advance tomorrow’s
technology.”
Professor Allen
notes that this is the latest support of high-technology
education that Siemens has provided through Southern
Polytechnic. The organization has been a sponsor and booster of
the annual Georgia BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and
Technology) high school competitions hosted by SPSU. Siemens has
also previously provided generous funding for student training
work stations that are the heart and soul of modern automated
manufacturing, and a significant Plastic Injection Molding
System, to the University’s Mechanical Engineering Technology
Department.
“Siemens is the
kind of responsible company that recognizes the impact of
education in the science and technology fields on our state’s –
and our nation’s – economy,” says Allen. “The future will be
very bright for those with an undergraduate mechatronics
knowledge and skills and they, in turn, can brighten the future
efficiency, productivity and growth of business and industry.”
Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego for Lockheed
Aerial Robotics
Awarded $9,350 to establish a cooperative relationship
with SPSU in the area training of training engineers and
technicians as well as for conduct of research and development
at the "Center of Excellence for Advanced Composites.
AquaDyn Technologies
Awarded $36,055 to validate the efficiency of AquaDyn
Technology's water treatment methods as compared to traditional
chemical treatment. |
