Enplas and Benjamin Jason Thomason Scholarships:
1- Enplas Scholarship
Amount Available for Academic Year 2008- 2009 = $1,584
Criteria:
- Applicants must be pursuing a
bachelor degree in MET and must be at least a junior with 60
credit hours completed.
- Applicants must have a minimum
cumulative GPA of 2.8.
- Preference will be given to
applicants who have an interest in pursuing a career in the
plastic industry.
- Based upon satisfactory academic
performance and compliance with criteria, the scholarship
may be renewed for an additional year.
- Scholarships will be awarded without
regard for race, religion, marital status, gender, age, or
disability.

Please write a short letter and list all your
accomplishments and explain why you are interested in pursuing
your career in the plastic industry. Send your letter to Dr.
Simin Nasseri (snasseri@spsu.edu). MET scholarship committee

2- Benjamin Jason Thomason Scholarship
Amount Available for Academic Year 2008- 2009 = $1,790
Created in memory of Benjamin Jason Thomason, BS MET 2000 who
passed away on 4/3/2001.
Criteria:
- Applicants should be Georgia
residents pursuing a bachelor of science degree in MET.
- Applicants must have a minimum
cumulative GPA of 2.5 and may be at any class level,
including entering freshman.
- Preference will be given to
applicants with financial need and to those who have
participated in some form of community service.
- Based upon satisfactory academic
performance and compliance with criteria, the scholarship
may be renewed for up to four years.
- Scholarships will be awarded without
regard to race, religion, marital status, gender, age,
physical or mental handicap or veteran status.
Academic year 2007-2008 recipient: Joshua D. Gunn
Please write a short letter and list all your accomplishments
and explain why you deserve this scholarship. Send your letter

It is intended that this software
be used by students at upper level courses, such as Tool
Design, and Machine Design. So students are encouraged to
attend this informative seminar and learn how to use this
software.

On March 13th, MET scholarship
committee selected "Brian Wallace Yoder" to receive the
"Society of Tribologists and
Lubrication Engineers Scholarship." Congratulations
to Brian for this achievement, which represents his hard work
and his determination!
Feb 08:
Society of Tribologists and
Lubrication Engineers Scholarship
The society of Tribology and Lubrication Engineers is offering
a $1000 scholarship to Southern Polytechnic State
University students for the Spring 2008 semester. Eligibility
for this scholarship is based on the following criteria:
- Mechanical Engineering
Technology student,
- SPSU GPA- 3.0 or higher,
- Junior or Senior standing,
- An interest in
manufacturing,
- Recommendation letter from a
faculty member (or your advisor) is desirable but not
required.
Please write a letter and list
all your accomplishments and explain why you are interested in
manufacturing and why you think you deserve to get this
scholarship. Send your letter to
Dr.
Simin Nasseri. MET scholarship committee will
review all the applications. The deadline for applying is
Feb 22, 2008.

international engineering society founded in 1944. STLE's
mission is to advance knowledge and application of the science
of tribology (lubrication, friction, wear and related
technologies) in order to foster innovations, improve the
performance of equipment and products, conserve resources and
protect the environment.”
Dec 2007:
4 students from SPSU's MET program took the
SME Certified Manufacturing Technologist
Exam on Dec 1st and passed this exam.

Nov 2007:
One of our MET students; John Edmund Rice
received the Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship 2007
from Share America Foundation. This is a scholarship
for young musicians who keep the mountain style music going.

Oct 2007:
On 1st
of October, the MET Scholarship Committee selected the following
students to receive academic year 2007-2008 scholarship from two
of our endowed scholarships:
1- Enplas Scholarship (Valued at $1500 for Fall
and Spring)
2- Benjamin Jason Thomason Scholarship
(Valued at $1650 for Fall and Spring)
- Awarded to: Joshua D. Gunn
An annual scholarship event was held on October 18th at the
Marietta Conference center to celebrate Joshua and Bryan's
accomplishments and the accomplishment of other scholarship
recipients across campus, as well as to give them an opportunity
to enjoy a dinner with SPSU President Lisa Rossbacher, key
alumni and members of the SPSU Foundation Trustees.
Congratulations to Joshua and Bryan on being chosen as
scholarship recipients by the MET Scholarship Committee!
Aug

MET
has a new website! The new website has
useful features like the search engine, advising tools, research
groups, resources for faculty, students and industry partners, etc. The previous
pages have been revised to reflect the latest changes.

Summer 2007:
News about faculty members:
Prof Glenn Allen has been
promoted to "Full Professor" effective Aug 1st.
Congratulations to Glenn for this well deserved promotion!
Erhan Ilksoy has joined
MET department as a temporary Assistant Professor. He has an
M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech, and an MS in
Engineering (Thermal/ Fluid Sciences) from Mississippi State. He
has many years of industrial experience, and formerly has taught
at Georgia Perimeter College and Gwinett Technical College.
Dr Kenton Fleming is now an
Assistant Professor in the MET department. He has been an
instructor at SPSU since 2005. He has PhD in Mechanical
Engineering from Mississippi State University. His main research
interests are developing curriculum pertaining to CAD/CAM.
Prof Julio Santander has
retired from Department of MET. He was hired in 1983 and taught
various courses such as Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and
HVAC. He was the Faculty Advisor for the ASHRAE Student Section.
MET department wishes him a happy retirement!
Sadly,
Miss
Todashia
Taylor (Miss Dee) died of a heart attack this morning
(May 2nd) at 5 AM. She had recently started her job
as program administrative secretary at MET. She was a nice,
hardworking, and kind-hearted woman. She lost her husband when
he was only 42 and she raised her three kids by herself. She
will be remembered and sorely missed. Peace
be with her!

Georgia Engineers’ Week
The Georgia Engineering
Alliance recognizes outstanding individuals in the field of
engineering each year. For 2007, Jeremy Pence of MET has
been selected as the Engineering Technology Student of the
Year. Mr. Pence is a senior with a 3.94 GPA. He will be
recognized at the E-Week luncheon on the SPSU campus on February
19, 2007.
